Artist Bio
Sofia Ravelo is a Bachelors of Science in Psychology graduate who has decided to pursue art full time.
Born July 13, 1994 in Montgomery, Alabama to parents who had recently immigrated to the US from Costa Rica; Sofia grew up in a multicultural household along with her two brothers. Sofia comes from a highly creative and artistic family; her mother is a talented percussionist, her aunt is both talented in fine arts and playing the cello, her eldest brother also paints and is skillful with the guitar, and her father is talented in drawing. Sofia has been drawing since the moment she could hold up a pen, and grew up with a mother who regularly exposed her to all different forms of art (i.e ballet, pottery, piano lessons, harp lessons, ice skating, classical music, etc…) When Sofia was 15, along side her aunt, she participated in an art show that was put together by her father. Roughly seven of her paintings were sold during that small exhibition. In her junior year of high school, she was placed in an advanced art class where only three other students were also chosen. During her senior year in high school one of her oil pastels was published in a book called Celebrating Art South - Spring 2012. After graduating high school, Sofia decided to pursue a degree in psychology, but always made time to paint and draw. After graduating in December of 2018, she realized that creating art was her true purpose, and is now working full time on art. Sofia participated in her very first art fair, the New Artist Fair, in September 2019 in London, UK.
Sofia typically works with oil paint, but at times uses different mediums such as acrylics, watercolors, and oil pastels. Her art is bold and colorful. She enjoys creating surreal and fictional worlds with her art. Her goal is to create art that impacts people on an individual level. She explains her works with careful minimalism so as to not influence what the viewer might personally see or believe from her work. Sofia enjoys different art styles such as expressionism, surrealism, pop art, contemporary art, post-impressionism, and abstract art.
Currently Sofia is working on a series of paintings she calls The Danny Squawk Chronicles.
